What is the difference between MIG and MAG welding machines?

The difference between MIG and MAG welders lies in the type of shielding gas used and their area of application: MIG welding (metal inert gas welding): In MIG welding, an inert gas such as argon or helium is used as the shielding gas. As this gas is chemically inert, the process is particularly suitable for materials such as aluminium, copper and other non-ferrous metals. It ensures clean welds and is often used when working with stainless materials. MAG welding (metal active gas welding): MAG welding uses an active gas such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) or a mixed gas of CO₂ and argon. The active gas reacts with the weld pool, which promotes good mixing and strength of the weld seam. This process is ideal for welding unalloyed or low-alloy steel and is often used in the construction industry and in mechanical engineering.

What kind of welding machine do I need for aluminium?

For the welding of aluminium WIG/TIG welders are suitable .welding machines with alternating current (AC) or MIG welding machines . The TIG process enables precise and clean welds , ideal for thin materials. MIG welding is better for thicker aluminium parts and offers a higher working speed. In both cases, an inert shielding gas such as argon is used to protect the weld pool.
