Piston compressors: Ideal for every workshop
A piston compress or consists of one or more cylinders driven by a motor. The air is sucked into the cylinder and compressed in one or more steps to the operating pressure. After compression, the compressed air flows through the aftercooler into the compressed air tank.
Piston compressors are mostly used where there is a lower demand for compressed air. Single-stage units are designed for approx. 8 - 10 bar, multi-stage units can deliver up to 30 bar. They are suitable for short-term operation and less for long-term operation. Therefore, an operating time of approx. 4 hours per day is often recommended. In addition, the duty cycle of an air-cooled piston compressor should not exceed 60 %. A break of 1.5 minutes after every 2 minutes of compression time should be observed.
