Diesel generators

The major advantages of diesel generators are their long service life and performance. In our shop you will find small devices with 2.8 kW through to large high-performance units with over 500 kW output. Compared to petrol, diesel does not heat up the engine as much. For this reason, diesel-powered generators are not only durable, but also suitable for continuous operation.

The combination of high performance paired with low fuel consumption makes them particularly attractive for machines with high power requirements. This is why diesel generators are often used on construction sites, in a commercial context or as emergency power generators, e.g. in industry or hospitals.

They are less suitable for private use due to the short shelf life of diesel fuel. The shelf life of the fuel is approx. 6 months if stored in an airtight container.

Diesel generators from ELMAG

Diesel generators offer several advantages compared to petrol, PTO and welding generators. Particularly in the areas of efficiency, possible applications, maintenance and reliability of the power supply. Diesel generators are characterised by higher energy efficiency, which makes them attractive for long-term use in industrial and commercial contexts as well as in emergency scenarios. They are also characterised by low fuel consumption, which results in low operating costs when used frequently. In addition, a permanent and reliable power supply can be guaranteed depending on the tank level.

A significant advantage over PTO generators is their independence from other drive sources. PTO generators, for example, require a tractor to be able to generate electricity at all. This means that diesel generators are more flexible and can be used anywhere. Compared to welding generators, which are only used for welding work, they also offer the decisive advantage of a wider range of applications.

In terms of maintenance , diesel generators are somewhat more demanding than petrol models, as the engine has a more complex structure that is more susceptible to wear during intensive use. Nevertheless, the service life of a diesel engine is generally much longer, which makes them particularly suitable for continuous use. Their robust design ensures reliability even under adverse conditions.

Another important advantage is the greater safety during storage and use. Diesel is less flammable than petrol, which significantly reduces the risk of fires. This is a major plus point, especially in areas where safety plays a central role. For these reasons, diesel generators are often used in agriculture, construction, industry and as emergency generators in the event of power failures.

How long does diesel last in an emergency power generator?

By adding stabilisers, the shelf life can be extended to up to 2 years. After prolonged storage, the diesel can form residues and deposits that can damage the generator engine, which is why regular checks and the addition of fresh diesel are advisable.

What does a diesel generator consume?

The consumption of a diesel generator depends on the output and load . On average , the value is around 0.2 to 0.5 litres of diesel per kWh of energy generated. A smaller generator with an output of 5 kW can consume around 1 to 2.5 litres per hour at full load, while larger models with 10 kW or more require around 2 to 5 litres per hour. The exact consumption varies depending on the efficiency of the motor, load profile and maintenance status of the appliance.
